‘Special Sofa Sessions’ (Free)

As many of you know, Ethemia offers ‘Special Sofa Sessions’. These sessions consist of a 30/40 minute acoustic set, for no fee, to people unable to make live music gigs due to illness or disability. We have performed to people suffering with cancer and chronic illnesses. We have played our songs both to elderly and young people alike – in their own homes, residential care, hospitals and hospice’s.

A while ago we had the privilege of performing a ‘Special Sofa Session’ to some amazing young people living in a residential home in Gloucester.

These young people had differing disabilities, but their love for life, for each other and live music was electric! Their eyes and their hearts lit up during our performance. Their smiles, their singing and dancing was contagious. We felt so blessed to share our music with them all. To see them full of such joy is something that neither Berny or I, will ever forget.

“There is no greater disability in society, than the inability to see a person as more” ~ Robert M. Hensel

We all have the opportunity to live our lives with our hearts on fire. The human spirit can rise above all. Its ability to persevere against the odds, to show courage in the face of fear, to truly live nomatter what. To realise and recognise that no disability need ever steal the magic of life away. On reflection every young person their taught us that.

The amount of love and joy they shared was so beautiful, that we both felt incredibly emotional. In a world that is sometimes full of darkness, we found ourselves that day being drawn into a light that shone so brightly and into a world of total love and inclusion – where everyone benefits, because love has no limits and can transcend all barriers.

TO ANYONE WISHING FOR A ‘SPECIAL SOFA SESSION’                                                                   If you know of anyone who meets the criterior above with regard to their illness or disability and who you know loves live acoustic music, then get in touch and we will see what magic we can share.
